Facelift

The facelift procedure is a popular procedure for women and men alike that are seeking a more youthful appearance. The facelift procedure is appropriate for patients who notice a significant drooping or loss of elasticity in the facial skin and underlying tissue. During consultation, the doctor carefully examines the individuals skin type, bone structure, age and skin elasticity in order to design how the patient will achieve maximum improvement from the facelift procedure.

Patients undergoing a traditional facelift are 'asleep' under general anaesthesia. An incision is made in the natural creases in the skin around the ears or along the beard line on men. The placement of the incision is critical to camouflage any light scarring. The muscle and connective tissues are then tightened and repositioned and excess skin is removed. Afterward, the incisions are closed with fine sutures and a dressing is applied to the healing skin.

Since the facelift is an outpatient procedure, the patient may be driven home the same day by a family member or friend. During the ten day recovery period, most facelift patients report very little pain, however, medication is prescribed. Swelling and bruising does occur and can be reduced using cold compresses. Dressings are usually removed within 2 days and all sutures are removed within 5 to10 days.
